On-Air Planning Internship
The On-Air Planning Internship offered by a&e networks is a great opportunity for students to learn the full end to end broadcast process. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work with a variety of departments across multiple countries and gain valuable experience in TV production and planning.
The internship is open to students enrolled in a sandwich course at degree level who are eligible to work in the UK and want to work for what Broadcast Magazine called “The Best Place to Work in Television 2018”. As an on-air planner, you will be responsible for completing daily presentation schedules, continuity plans and scripts on all of A+E Networks’ channel brands including History, Blaze, Crime & Investigation, Lifetime and Sky History.
You will assist with completing presentation grids and navigation assets, liaising with voice-over artists and preparing them for self-op sessions. You will also be required to attend allocation and commissioning meetings, view promotional and branding material and work with the Media Planning team to implement airtime strategies.

Applicants must be current high school, Trade School enrollees or graduate students who are interested in learning the operations of a major market radio station and how a professional staff operates on-air. You will be responsible for answering phone lines, recording commercial spots and program material, assisting on-air personalities during air-shifts and promoting and organizing station events such as street stops, concerts, movie screenings and live broadcast remotes.

It’s important to set realistic goals so that you can achieve them – and be sure to have regular meetings with your supervisor to ensure that you’re getting the most out of the experience.
Before you apply for a placement, you should meet with your academic advisor to ensure that this is the best course for you. They will be able to help you to identify what skills and experiences you should aim for in your placement and give you guidance on which organisations might be the best fit for you.

After you’ve applied for your internship with A+E Networks, you’ll be contacted by the relevant department and offered a placement interview. During this interview, you’ll be given an overview of the company and be asked to provide a brief outline of your skills, experience and interests.
Once your application has been accepted you’ll be assigned a Placement Adviser (or equivalent) who will be responsible for organising and delivering your internship. This person will be based at the head office and will provide you with support throughout your internship. They will also be able to help you with any issues you may have whilst you’re with A+E.
